Help, I’ve just been in an accident! What should I do first?

Call an ambulance if anyone is injured.

If possible, move your vehicle away from oncoming traffic. Do what you can to minimally alter the crash while avoiding any additional accidents.

Call the police to file an official police report, especially if any of the following are involved

  • Significant property damage
  • Serious bodily injury
  • Death

Accidents are a headache (literally). Filing a police report will give you the proper documentation needed to ensure your claim is properly filed. Also, contact your insurance company right away to inform them of the accident. Doing your part is essential to ease the process for all parties involved,

After all these important steps are complete, call or stop by Shadow Lake Collision Center for an estimate. Our number is (402)763-5200 or drop by our location.

”Do I have to go to the insurance company’s claim center before having my vehicle repaired?

No, you are not required to do so. You can leave your vehicle at Shadow Lake Collision Center and request that the insurance adjuster visit our facility. We have excellent relationships with all major auto insurance companies.

Do I have to get more than one estimate?

Nebraska state law does not require that you obtain more than one estimate.

That being said, it’s a good idea to get a quality estimate, not the easiest. Shadow Lake offers a free, computerized estimate. Our experts and state-of-the-art repair and refinishing equipment ensure you’re getting all damages covered and repaired.

Differences in shop repair estimates and insurance estimates are common. A lower estimate may not include all necessary work or updated parts prices. If you are unsure why one estimate is different from another, feel free to ask your customer service representative at your repair shop. Verify that your repair shop will perform quality checks on all parts to be installed on your vehicle.

Your collision repair shop should negotiate your claim on your behalf with the insurance company.

Do I have to use a certain repair shop?

You have the right to choose which repair shop you trust with your vehicle.

Be wary of any repair shop your insurance recommends. Do your research and ensure the company is well qualified. Insurance companies may try to low-ball your damages, leading to cheap repairs and future problems.

All insurance claims are welcome at Shadow Lake Collision Center. Contact us, and we will pick up and deliver your vehicle for free.

What if I don’t have insurance, or I don’t want to use the insurance coverage I do have?

We would be glad to work with you directly, but before you pay for the damages out of pocket, consider the following:

  • If you are involved in a multiple vehicle accident, you must take the other drivers into consideration. If you’re at fault, they might contact their insurance anyway. If not, come to a mutual agreement on how the repairs will be paid for.
  • If you are involved in a single-car crash, you do not have to file a claim.
  • If the repairs are cheaper than the deductible, your insurance will likely make you pay for the damages anyway.
  • If you have made numerous claims and your insurance company has threatened to drop your coverage, pay for the repairs yourself if capable.
  • Not only is driving without insurance illegal, a serious accident without it could be a financial catastrophe. Pay for the repairs this time and avoid the future repercussions.
What should I look for when choosing a repair shop?

You should look for a neat, well-organized facility with modern equipment. Check for signs that the staff has received the training to properly repair your vehicle, such as trade school diplomas, advanced training certificates from I-CAR (Inter-Industry Conference on Auto Collision Repair), and certifications from ASE (National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence). Also, make sure the shop provides a limited to lifetime warranty on parts.

Shadow Lake Collision Center proudly receives I-Car’s top accreditation, a 100% Customer Referral Rate from Customer Research, Inc.

Will I receive a warranty with the repair work?

Yes, at Shadow Lake Collision Center we give our customers a written lifetime warranty with every completed repair. This gives you the peace of mind that we will stand behind our work. 100% customer satisfaction is our goal.

How long will it take to repair my vehicle?

When you bring your vehicle in for an estimate, a Shadow Lake Collision Center estimator will tell you the length of time it will take to repair your vehicle and give you an explanation of the process to restore your car to its pre-accident condition. We will then work with you to set up a repair date that works with your schedule.

Is the final bill ever different than the estimate?

The final bill could differ from our estimate if we discover damages that were not apparent in our initial examination of your vehicle. This does happen occasionally. If it does, we would contact your insurance company and work out any differences with them. We would also alert you so that you are kept up-to-date with all information. Your deductible, or out of pocket cost, would stay the same.

How do I obtain a rental while my vehicle is being repaired?

Your insurance may cover the use of a rental vehicle. If you were not at fault, the other driver’s insurance company may be liable to cover the cost of a rental vehicle for your use. In either case, we would be happy to arrange a rental vehicle for you.

How do I know that my insurance company will work with you?

Your collision repair shop should negotiate your claim on your behalf with the insurance company.

Shadow Lake Collision Center is approved by all major auto insurance companies. We will contact your insurance agent for you and handle the necessary paperwork to get your vehicle repaired correctly and back on the road as soon as possible.
